Looking for something different? A new job using your skills. We are looking for an outgoing and effective communicator to co-ordinate and run events within the Grade II Listed Building. This will also include the promotion of The Victoria Hall as a Northwest venue for musical and heritage events through all lines of social media. Essential requirements include the promotion, marketing, and publicity of Victoria Hall as a premier centre for Events Conferencing utilizing social and other methods of communication. 35 Hours Per Week. Salary £25k The successful applicant will be in sympathy with the aims and objectives of the Methodist Church. A DBS certificate will be required. Thank you to all those who contribute regularly to the food box for The Brick in the front porch, it is very much appreciated. The Brick’s food stocks are rather depleted. If you could bring some tinned or dried food with you to church, it would help to replenish the larder.

1. Your personal data – what is it?

Personal data relates to a living individual who can be identified from that data. Identification can be by the information alone or in conjunction with any other information in the data controller’s possession or likely to come into such possession. The processing of personal data is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”)2018.



2. Who are we?

Standish Methodist Church Council is the data controller (contact details below). This means it decides how your personal data is processed and for what purposes.  Standish Methodist Church Council may change this policy from time to time and any such changes will be published on our church noticeboard and website.  Notwithstanding any change to this policy, we will continue to process your personal data in accordance with your rights and our obligations in law.



3. How do we process your personal data?

Standish Methodist Church Council complies with its obligations under the “GDPR” by keeping personal data up to date; by storing and destroying it securely; by not collecting or retaining excessive amounts of data; by protecting personal data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access and disclosure and by ensuring that appropriate technical measures are in place to protect personal data.


We collect data necessary for Standish Methodist Church to pursue its charitable objectives and by running events, maintaining memberships, keeping our members and supporters informed of our activities, marketing, fundraising and the effective running of Standish Methodist Church through its staff, trustees and volunteers.  


In furtherance of this, we use your personal data  which includes but is not limited to the following purposes: -

To maintain and update lists of members, officers and groups that are part of Standish Methodist Church, including Messy Church;

To manage the premises, including maintaining and updating records of all keyholders and groups/individuals using/hiring the church premises

To maintain our own financial accounts and records, including the processing of gift aid

To inform you of news, events, activities and services organised by Standish Methodist Church, eg. the emailing of weekly church notices, communication regarding Messy Church;

Safeguarding records, including casework, safer recruitment work and record of training, etc.


Data collected and processed may include, but be limited to:

Name and role in church

Contact information, including email address

Sensitive data may be collected where necessary for safeguarding purposes or upon application  to hold an office in Standish Methodist Church, or where required by law



4. What is the legal basis for processing your personal data?

Organisations are permitted to process data if they have a legal basis for doing so.  Standish Methodist Church processes data on the basis that:

It has a legitimate interest to process data; and / or

Express and informed consent has been given by the person whose data is being processed; and /or

There is a legal obligation on the Methodist Church to process data; and/or

Processing is necessary to protect the vital interests of a data subject or another person (in accordance with safeguarding policy and practice).


Where we process special category sensitive data (under article 9 of GDPR) we process data on the basis that:

Explicit consent has been given by the person whose data is being processed

Processing is necessary to protect the vital interests of a data subject or antoher individual where the data subject is physically or legally incapable of giving consent (in accordance with safeguarding practice); and /or

The Methodist Church in Britain is a member ship organisation and the processing relates only to members or former members of those who have regular contact with it in connection with its purposes and no disclosure is made to a third party without consent of the person whose data is being processed.



5. Sharing your personal data

Your data will not be shared outside of Standish Methodist Church, except where required to do so by law, eg. safeguarding.

Explicit, informed consent will be sought from individuals whenever and wherever required in accordance with data protection legislation.



6. Security

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure.  In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the data we process.



7. How long do we keep your personal data1?

We keep data in accordance with the guidance set out in the Connexional Team Retention Schedules, which incorporates statutory retention periods. We regularly review the data we hold and securely delete any personal data that is no longer necessary for us to process.


8. Your rights and your personal data

Unless subject to an exemption under the GDPR, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data: -

The right to request a copy of your personal data which Standish Methodist Church

Council holds about you;

The right to request Standish Methodist Church Council corrects any personal data if

it is found to be inaccurate or out of date;

The right to request your personal data is erased where it is no longer necessary for

Standish Methodist Church Council to retain such data;

The right to withdraw your consent to the processing at any time

The right to request that the data controller provide the data subject with his/her

personal data and where possible, to transmit that data directly to another data

controller, (known as the right to data portability), (where applicable) [Only applies

where the processing is based on consent or is necessary for the performance of a

contract with the data subject and in either case the data controller processes the data

by automated means].

The right, where there is a dispute in relation to the accuracy or processing of your

personal data, to request a restriction is placed on further processing;

The right to object to the processing of personal data, (where applicable) [Only applies

where processing is based on legitimate interests (or the performance of a task in the public interest/exercise of official authority); direct marketing and processing for the purposes of scientific/historical research and statistics]

The right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioners Office.


9. Further processing

If we wish to use your personal data for a new purpose, not covered by this Data Protection

Notice, then we will provide you with a new notice explaining this new use prior to

commencing the processing and setting out the relevant purposes and processing conditions. Where and whenever necessary, we will seek your prior consent to the new processing.
